We define Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) as the integration of our business activities and values, whereby the interests of all stakeholders including clients, suppliers, employees, investors, local and wider community and the environment are reflected in the company’s policies and actions.

We recognise that our social, economic and environmental responsibilities to these stakeholders are integral to our business. We aim to demonstrate these responsibilities through our actions, some of which are highlighted below.

We're committed to our emissions reduction targets

Environmental Performance & Targets

Clarke has committed to set science-based emissions reduction targets that are consistent with keeping global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Clarke has also committed to a long-term target to reach net-zero emissions by no later than 2038. It is accelerating the switch to electric vehicles by rolling out charging infrastructure and initiatives such as the employee EV salary sacrifice scheme. All company vehicles will be electric by 2030.

Health and Safety

Clarke takes occupational Health & Safety very seriously. The company understands that successful Health and Safety management involves integrating sound principles and practice into day-to-day management arrangements and that good performance levels are achieved by the collaborative effort of all employees and subcontractors.

To ensure continuous improvement in efficiency and performance, the management of these matters has been incorporated within the company’s integrated Quality, Environment, Safety & Health Management System, which is certified to the ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 standards and by Safe Contractor.

We are currently working towards our Investors in Diversity accreditation by the National Centre for Diversity.

Local Community

The Company encourages staff to get involved in supporting charities and local community projects.

Employees may use their Community Impact Days to undertake activities that support our neighbours and the communities where we are working, to inspire tomorrow’s generation, to protect and enhance the natural environment, to leave our sites in a better state than they were received and to connect communities with the environment.

Ethical Procurement

All new suppliers undergo a sustainability assessment. All staff with responsibility for sourcing, supplier selection and supplier management have completed the Charted Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Ethical Procurement and Supply training. Clarke is listed on the CIPS Corporate Ethics Register.

Modern Slavery

We recognise that Modern Slavery is a growing global issue, and we understand our responsibility to prevent, mitigate and remediate where necessary, the risks of human trafficking, forced, bonded and child labour and to respect human rights in our operations and our supply chain. As a Company we will act transparently, ethically and with integrity both internally and across all of our business relationships. Appropriate action will be taken in response to any identified act of Modern Slavery and the processes and control measures we implement in support of this policy aim to prevent, in so far as we are able, the opportunity for acts of Modern Slavery to arise.
