Site Acquisition

The acquisition and planning on this replacement site was particularly challenging with delays due to the Electronic Communications Code being introduced around the time that Heads of Terms were being agreed with a “difficult” site provider agent. The site required full planning which was originally tipped for refusal by the LPA and subsequently the scheme revised several times to appease the council. Planning was eventually won on appeal, and we managed to get our pre-Code lease honoured.

Build Complexity

With a very limited parking area and a recreation area directly below the building, a crane could not be used to deliver the materials to the roof. Another complication was this meant that scaffolding could not be built up from the ground, so a special temporary works design was required to cantilever the scaffolding off the roof.

All steelwork, scaffolding, cabinets and associated materials had to be designed to be carried by hand to the roof to be assembled. In total over 1.5 tonnes of scaffolding was used to safely install the cabinet grillage and steelwork to the plant room.
